New Jersey pedestrian accident leaves baby, 3 others injured

On Behalf of | Nov 1, 2018 | Personal Injury |

The youngest among us are the most innocent and fragile members of society. It pains us all when one of them is injured, and causes almost unimaginable distress for the little one’s family.

It is against that backdrop that we share the story of four people injured in a car crash about an hour north of Flemington. Law enforcement officials said four pedestrians on a sidewalk were struck by a vehicle that jumped a curb after a collision with another vehicle. A one-year-old baby boy and a 5-year-old were hit and then hospitalized with serious injuries.

A 26-year-old male pedestrian was left in critical condition after the early evening Bayonne crash.

The baby wound up pinned beneath a vehicle, a city spokesperson said. The infant and the 5-year-old were hospitalized; the woman with them sustained minor injuries. The news article about the incident did not state if the crash victims are part of a family.

“It was terrible,” a witness said. “There was a baby under the car. I pray God comforts them and gives them the strength to go on. It’s terrible what happened.”

According to law enforcement officials, two cars collided in a Bayonne intersection, sending one of the vehicles up and over a curb. It skidded about 75 feet on a sidewalk, striking the four pedestrians in the process.

The 26-year-old man was struck violently, the article stated, his body “mangled.”

A witness who helped his father pull the car off of the baby said his “dad says the face was all bloody and the body was all purple.”

The city’s mayor said, “You’ve got four people injured. It doesn’t get any worse than that.” He added that “the only thing you can say is you pray for the best for all the families.”

No charges have yet been filed in the matter.

We don’t yet know the cause of this wreck, but we know that in similar incidents impairment, excess speed or distractions can all play major roles.
